Apple picking and apple pie
Brittany and I went apple picking this weekend. Our plan was to pick the apples then get sushi for lunch then come home and bake an apple pie. Everything went as planned except it took us a long time to find a sushi place that was open for some reason. We were both really craving it so we drove to Biddeford then to Portland and finally had some delicious well needed sushi. Then it was back home to bake apple pie. Besides lacking some sort of cream topping it was wonderful!
It was fun to climb the trees to get the apples but then we had trouble getting us and the apples down safely.

Pumpkin Whoopie Pies
For anyone who wants a delicious fall desert here is the recipe:
1 1/2 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup canola oil
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
2 eggs
1 (15oz) can of pumpkin puree
3 cups flour
1tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground cloves
Preheat oven to 350.
Mix together with a mixer-brown sugar, oil, and vanilla. Add eggs one at a time. Add pumpkin.
In a separate bowl mix flour and the rest of the ingredients. Add 1/2 of dry mixture to wet mixture and mix. Then add the other half. Put spoonfuls onto cookie sheet and cook 11-13 minutes (depending on how big you make them. I make them small so they are bite sized about a teaspoon drop and only cook them for 81/2 minutes.)
For the filling you can use any whoopie pie filling. I just use the one from mom. Watch out you may get addicted. I made some more today for a football thing that Jon is going to tomorrow. Any excuse I can get to have a couple and then send the majority somewhere else.

Uneventful
Well not totally uneventful. We did a lot of work around the house. Isn't that what Labor Day weekend is for? Jon finished his drip edge project. We mowed and weed whacked both lawns. Rza and I cleaned the inside of the house. Jon tried Thai food for the first time and LIKED it! Brittany dyed my hair (it's the same color just no gray hairs..yay!) We went to our favorite Saco River spot and went swimming. I tried to get into the fall spirit since it is September now and made some pumpkin whoopie pies (plus i made them for someone as a thank-you). They were delicious! We didn't even BBQ which was kind of sad. And that was the extent of our weekend. We tried to stick around the house to spend time with Rza and tomorrow is the day we find out more about his situation. Happy Labor Day!
